Do you like to mix your music genres? Perhaps a little R&B, some Soul, a touch of Jazz, and a pinch of Rap added to a drop of Hip Hop and Pop….. Once combined, you have the musical style of the one and only BRUNO MARS!
This young 28 year old has managed multiple award nominations and acquired the platinum record status and trophies that have accompanied them. Beginning his career in 2006, Bruno has racked up a current net worth in excess of $40 Million. He is a talented singer-songwriter, record producer, vocal artist and choreographer who has won 2 Grammy’s, sold more than 11 million albums and over 68 million singles worldwide.
His talents don’t stop there though, he’s very musically inclined instrumentally reaching near perfection with skills on the drums, guitar, keyboard, bass, piano, harmonica and human beat-boxing added to his already extensive vocals. Before becoming successful as a solo artist, Bruno was an acknowledged music producer who had written songs for artists like Alexandra Burke, Travie McCoy, Adam Levine, Brandy, Flo Rida and Sean Kingston. His prominence as a solo artist peaked when he co-wrote “Billionaire” with Travie McCoy and “Nothin on you” with B.o.B. Both songs went into the top 10 of many worldwide charts.
While He signed his first contract with Motown Records in 2004, that contract lead him nowhere fast and Motown dropped him less than a year later. So with time on his hands and the ability to further expand his horizons, Bruno took to songwriting. His insatiable thirst for music writing and lyrical spellbinding, quickly landed him a music publishing deal with Steve Lindsey and Cameron Strang at Westside Independent in 2005.
Meanwhile he performed cover song gigs around Los Angeles with “The Hooligans”, of which his brother Eric Hernandez is the drummer. It wasn’t until 2006 that Atlantic Records A&R Manager Aaron Bay-Schuck was introduced to Bruno Mars, and while he was ready to sign Bruno immediately, that deal didn’t make its way down the pipeline and onto paper until 2009.
Following the signing of that contract, Bruno released his debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans in 2010. Two of the songs on this album, “Just the Way You Are” and “Grenade” were chart toppers for the young solo artist. He has continued producing hits with other well-known artists like Eminem, while he furthers his career, tops charts, and wins a multitude of awards for his own performances as well as his collaborative efforts.
His nomination as writer and producer of “Young, Wild & Free” with Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa is a top honor for him, having worked with some of the best in the biz. He’s gone on to perform as the headliner of the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show in January with The Red Hot Chili Peppers making a guest appearance. On record, the halftime show holds the title of the Most Watched Super Bowl halftime show in history! Furthermore, Bruno Mars is the first ever Super Bowl lead performer under 30 and of Puerto Rican decent!
To think that performance came just 1 week after winning the award for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 56th Grammy Awards for Unorthodox Jukebox, which earned him chart-topping singles like “Treasure” and “Gorillas”.
Keep up the great work Bruno, your “Hooligans” won’t let you down!
