Foo Fighters – “Sonic Highway”

Foo Fighters 8th studio album in their 20 years together is scheduled for release on November 10, 2014 through RCA Records on both CD and 180 gram vinyl LP. The album is currently available for pre-order on iTunes and Amazon as well as through the Foo Fighters direct website. The perk of pre-ordering from the Foo Fighters direct website exclusively is your choice of nine covers.

As the Foo Fighters trekked across America making stops in recording studios from Austin to Seattle, New York to Chicago, Los Angeles to New Orleans, and even D.C., these rockers have really put their spin on “Rockin in the USA”.

The album is the musical journal of their journey across the country in the HBO series that will premier this fall on October 17th. Check out the full feature trailer that begins in New Orleans deep in the French Quarter and wraps up with a statement that states the production is a “Love Letter to the History of music” on YouTube.

Although band-member Chris Shiflett posted an IG track list consisting of 13 songs, the track list released on August 11th lists a total of only 8 songs. One could surmise that it is one song per city and a representation of their time there… to match the number album cover choices of course.

While David made a statement that reads in part “I think that these cities and these people influenced us to stretch out and explore new territory, without losing our ‘sound’.”While there may be something more musical perhaps a little deeper after 20 years in the biz, the album and its contents are said to be “Instantly recognizable as a Foo Fighters album.

Let’s also tip our hats to these guys in their ALS Ice Bucket Challenge for originality. David Grohl was nominated by friend and collaborator Zac Brown and performed the challenge in a true Stephen King “Carrie” themed setting using actual footage of the movie as a backdrop and nominated the author and John Travolta (1976 Carrie actor) as well as Jack Black, although Black wasn’t nominated as part of Carrie reference.
